Hubballi: Union home minister and minister of cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday visited the campus of JGMM Medical College and KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Hubballi, highlighting the institution’s long-standing contribution to education and healthcare.
According to a post by Shah on X, KLE has been serving the country through education and healthcare for more than 110 years. The new facility has 250 MBBS seats and 1,200 hospital beds, including 300 beds reserved for economically weaker patients, he said.
Spread across around 50 acres, the medical college and hospital complex has been built at an estimated cost of ₹700 crore and has a total built-up area of about 20 lakh sq ft.
The hospital is designed to provide a range of medical services under one roof. Its speciality departments include general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, pulmonology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT, psychiatry, dentistry and physiotherapy.

The facility will also offer super-speciality services, including cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, nephrology, organ transplantation, urology, oncology and endocrinology, along with modern diagnostic laboratories.
Emergency and critical-care infrastructure includes a 24-hour emergency and trauma care facility, while other services include a modern dialysis unit, digital X-ray, high-resolution CT scanning and ultrasonography.
The new medical campus is expected to expand access to specialised and super-specialised healthcare services in the region, while its medical education infrastructure will add to Karnataka’s capacity for training MBBS students.
