Y. S. Sharmila Appointed President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee

Amaravati: In a significant development, Y. S. Sharmila has been appointed as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), announced by All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday. This decision follows the resignation of Gidugu Rudra Raju from the position, making way for Sharmila’s leadership.

Mallikarjun Kharge has concurrently appointed Gidugu Rudra Raju as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

Y. S. Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the daughter of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, expressed gratitude to Kharge, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and K. C. Venugopal for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the APCC. Sharmila, who recently merged the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress party on January 4, affirmed her commitment to working diligently towards revitalizing the party’s stature in Andhra Pradesh. She shared her pledge on social media, stating, “I promise to work faithfully towards rebuilding the party to its past glory in the State of Andhra Pradesh with total commitment and integrity.”
