Bhubaneswar: Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, affirmed yesterday that the Election Commission is committed to transparency, announcing plans to publish comprehensive details of donors and receivers of electoral bonds within the mandated timeframe set by the Supreme Court.
Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Kumar stated that the Election Commission will adhere to the directives of the Supreme Court, particularly regarding voting methods, as the court deliberates on petitions advocating for the use of either Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) or traditional ballot papers in upcoming elections.
The recent Supreme Court ruling instructed the State Bank of India to immediately halt the issuance of electoral bonds and mandated the submission of a list of all donors to political parties to the Election Commission by March 6th. Additionally, the judgment mandated the Election Commission to publicly disclose all details pertaining to electoral bond donors and recipients by March 13th.
Furthermore, Kumar emphasized that the Election Commission is fully prepared to oversee the forthcoming Lok Sabha and State elections, underscoring the Commission’s dedication to ensuring free, fair, and transparent electoral processes.
