Gadag: Three of family commit suicide

Gadag: A harrowing incident unfolded in Gonal village, located in Lakshmeshwar taluk of Karnataka’s Gadag district, where three members of a family, including two women, took their own lives amidst a dispute over a tractor loan.

The deceased, identified as 49-year-old Renuka Teli, her son 22-year-old Manjunath Teli, and her maternal aunt 47-year-old Savakka Teli, succumbed to the devastating consequences of the family discord.

Police reports indicate that the tragic event stemmed from a disagreement between mother Renuka and son Manjunath regarding the repayment of a loan taken out to purchase a tractor, amounting to Rs 4 lakh from a bank.

In the aftermath of the dispute, Renuka Teli, in an apparent act of despair, chose to end her life by jumping in front of an oncoming train. Tragically, her son Manjunath, attempting to intervene or follow her, met with a similar fate as he too was struck by the train.

Upon learning of the heartbreaking deaths, Manjunath’s maternal aunt, Sakavva Teli, took her own life by hanging herself at their residence, compounding the family’s already immense grief.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicides, with eyewitness testimonies being recorded to shed light on the tragic sequence of events. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the profound impact of financial strain and familial conflicts on individuals’ mental well-being, prompting calls for greater awareness and support for mental health issues within communities.
