Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Pradesh Election Committee (UPPEC) is set to convene on Sunday to unanimously propose Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi as the party’s candidates for the Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha seats.
UPCC President Ajay Rai affirmed, “The UPPEC will meet on Sunday to recommend names for all seats. However, the selection of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi will be unanimous. There will be no debate on their nominations, and both leaders will be invited to contest from Rae Bareli and Amethi.”
Deepak Singh, a prominent Congress leader from Amethi, revealed that district and state party units have already passed resolutions urging the duo to contest from Rae Bareli and Amethi. Singh, also a UPPEC member, reiterated the plea to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi to contest from their respective constituencies.
Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Anil Yadav and UPCC Spokesman Manish Hindavi disclosed that the UPPEC, chaired by UPCC President Ajay Rai, comprises 39 members, including Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona.’
The Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) have forged a seat-sharing agreement for the 2024 polls, with the Congress receiving 17 seats and the SP securing 63 seats. However, the UPPEC will continue to deliberate and shortlist candidates for other constituencies.
