New Delhi: In a significant crackdown, the Delhi Police has dismantled an illegal unit engaged in the production of counterfeit cancer chemotherapy medicines. The operation led to the arrest of seven individuals, including two employees of a reputed hospital, uncovering a sophisticated network involved in manufacturing and distributing fake life-saving drugs.
A senior police official revealed that raids conducted in the Moti Nagar area and other locations resulted in the seizure of spurious cancer medicines worth Rs 4 crore, encompassing seven international brands and two Indian brands.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Viphil Jain, Suraj Shat, Neeraj Chauhan, Parvez, Komal Tiwari, Abhinay Kohli, and Tushar Chauhan.
Shalini Singh, Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, disclosed that simultaneous raids were carried out at four different locations in Delhi and Gurugram based on actionable intelligence.
The primary manufacturing hub for spurious cancer medicines was traced to DLF Capital Greens, Moti Nagar, where the mastermind Viphil Jain operated from two EWS flats. Suraj Shat was identified as managing the refilling and packaging of the illicit medicines.
During the raids, authorities seized a significant quantity of filled and empty vials, along with cash and packaging equipment. Notably, Neeraj Chauhan was found to be hoarding counterfeit cancer injections in South City, Gurugram, along with a substantial amount of cash and foreign currency.
Further investigations led to the apprehension of Tushar Chauhan, Parvez, and individuals involved in the supply chain, underscoring the extensive reach of the illegal operation.
Additionally, two employees of a reputed cancer hospital in Delhi, Komal Tiwari and Abhinay Kohli, were arrested for their involvement in supplying empty vials. This revelation points to the alarming extent of collusion within the healthcare sector.
The successful dismantling of this fake medicine racket highlights the diligence of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding public health and upholding the integrity of the pharmaceutical industry.
