Bulgarian Delegation to Visit Bengaluru in November to Explore Clean Energy Partnerships

Bengaluru: Bulgaria is exploring partnerships with Karnataka in bioenergy, renewable energy and clean technology, with a high-level Bulgarian delegation comprising ministers and senior administrative officials scheduled to visit Bengaluru in November, coinciding with the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS).

The proposed visit was discussed during a meeting between Bulgarian Ambassador to India Dr Nikolay Yankov and Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB) chairman S E Sudheendra in Bengaluru. The discussions focused on joint initiatives, technology transfer and sustainable investments in the renewable energy sector.

Yankov informed Sudheendra about the planned delegation’s visit, which is expected to provide an opportunity to explore deep-tech and clean-energy partnerships with Karnataka.

Karnataka showcases German collaboration model

During the meeting, Sudheendra highlighted Karnataka’s efforts to build international partnerships in renewable energy and briefed the ambassador on an 11-member delegation he led to Germany last year.

The delegation held discussions with senior diplomatic officials at the Consulate General of India in Frankfurt to explore international clean-technology collaborations. The visit resulted in a memorandum of understanding with German academic institutions, including Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

The delegation also facilitated an investment framework with German agency Hamburg Invest, paving the way for a proposed investment of ₹1,000 crore in Karnataka’s bioenergy infrastructure, according to the details shared during the meeting.

Sudheendra said the model, which combines diplomatic coordination, academic research and international investment, could be replicated through partnerships with Bulgarian academic institutions and industrial research centres. He said such collaborations could support clean-technology development and net-zero objectives.

Focus on farm-to-fuel opportunities

Yankov welcomed the proposed approach and discussed the potential to connect Bulgaria’s industrial biotechnology capabilities with Karnataka’s network of Biofuel Research Information and Demonstration Centres (BRIDCs).

The proposed collaboration is expected to explore farm-to-fuel models that link agricultural resources with bioenergy production and create opportunities for sustainable economic development.

Both sides viewed the forthcoming Bulgarian delegation’s visit in November as an important opportunity to advance cross-border cooperation in clean technology, bioenergy and environmental innovation.
