New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Delhi’s Dwarka district police has arrested a 22-year-old man and seized 101 grams of heroin, estimated to be valued at Rs 25-30 lakh in the international market, while uncovering a suspected inter-state drug supply network, officials said on Wednesday.
The police also seized two mobile phones from the accused, identified as Rohit, a resident of Uncha Majra village in Haryana’s Gurugram district. During interrogation, he disclosed links to a foreign national suspected of supplying drugs in Delhi’s Janakpuri area.
According to the police, the arrest was made on October 24 following a tip-off about individuals procuring drugs from Delhi and supplying them to neighbouring areas of the National Capital Region (NCR).
Acting on the information, a dedicated team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell was formed under the leadership of Inspector Satish Kumar, in-charge of the cell, and under the supervision of ACP Subhash Malik of the Operations Unit, Dwarka district.
The team, comprising Sub-Inspectors Naveen Kumar and Sunil Kumar, Head Constables Manish Kumar and Mahipal, and Constable Vinod, laid a trap near Harsukh Apartments in Sector 1, Dwarka.
During the operation, the police apprehended Rohit and recovered 101 grams of heroin, classified as an intermediate quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Two mobile phones were also seized from his possession.
Following the recovery, a case was registered under FIR No. 323/2026, dated October 24, under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act at Dwarka South police station. The accused was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, Rohit disclosed that he had travelled from Haryana to Delhi to collect the heroin consignment.
He further claimed that he had obtained the contraband from a foreign national in the Janakpuri area on the instructions of a person identified as Jaivinder, who was in contact with the suspected supplier.
The police have obtained two days of police custody remand of the accused to investigate the source of the heroin, establish its intended destination and identify other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network.
Investigators are also analysing CCTV footage from relevant locations to verify the accused’s movements and identify the suspected supplier and other associates.
Rohit, 22, is pursuing his final year of B.Com.
According to the police, no previous criminal involvement has been found against him in the available records so far.
The Dwarka district police said the operation was part of its sustained efforts to identify drug traffickers, dismantle narcotics supply chains and curb the illegal distribution of drugs under its ‘Drug-Free Dwarka’ initiative.
Further investigation is underway.
