Delhi prison authorities seize 8 mobile phones, contraband in jails

Delhi prison authorities successfully conducted search operations at Tihar and Mandoli jails, resulting in the seizure of several prohibited items and mobile phones. The initiative was prompted by crucial intelligence received by the authorities.

The operation at Central Jail No. 3 in Tihar was initiated on Tuesday, where officials carried out an extensive search by digging approximately 2-3 feet deep at various locations within the prison premises. This meticulous search led to the discovery of three smart mobile phones, two keypad mobile phones, two data cables, one adaptor, one knife, and one iron borer (Sua). Deputy Superintendent Sanjeev Kumar efficiently supervised the search operation to ensure its effectiveness.

To further combat illegal activities, another search operation was conducted on Wednesday at Central Jail No. 11 in Mandoli. During this operation, three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and handmade cigarettes containing banned substances were confiscated.

The confiscated items will be handed over for additional investigation, and appropriate legal actions will be taken in accordance with the law. This reinforces the prison authorities’ commitment to maintaining a secure and controlled environment within the jails.

Earlier in March, similar successful operations were conducted, with the recovery of ten mobile phones and other banned contraband concealed in two ‘Real Juice’ packets thrown from outside in Rohini Jail No. 10. In the same month, officials found five mobile phones wrapped around an inmate’s leg in Mandoli prison during his court appearance. These measures demonstrate the prison authorities’ dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the correctional facilities.
