Amit Shah Says ‘Ready For Manipur Discussion’

New Delhi: Amid protests from the Opposition over a shocking video of a mob parading two Manipur women naked, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his willingness to have a discussion on the matter. The Monsoon Session of Parliament began with the Opposition demanding a debate on the issue, and the central government has stated its readiness for such a discussion.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had already conveyed in the Lok Sabha that the government is prepared to talk about the sensitive situation in Manipur. However, the discussions have been delayed due to disagreements over the specific rule under which the matter should be discussed.

Opposition MPs moved adjournment notices seeking a discussion under Rule 267, which suspends all other business in the House and focuses on a particular matter. On the other hand, the Centre was prepared for a discussion under Rule 176, which allows for a short duration discussion.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged the Opposition leaders to cooperate and allow a debate on the issue, emphasizing the importance of revealing the truth about the situation in Manipur. However, the protests continued, and the proceedings in Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day after repeated disruptions.

The Manipur situation has been a matter of concern as ethnic violence has resulted in over 100 deaths in the northeastern state over the past few months. While the government is ready to address the issue, the technicality regarding the rule for the discussion has caused chaos and delays in the Parliament.
