Anupam Kher prays for ‘health, happiness, & peace’ at the Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata

Mumbai, June 28 (IANS) Veteran actor Anupam Kher prayed for ‘health, happiness, and peace’ to Maa Kali as he visited the Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata.

He took to his official Instagram handle on Sunday and published a few glimpses from the temple visit.

“JAI MAA KALI! There is something deeply reassuring about standing in a place of worship that has witnessed centuries of faith, hope, tears, and prayers. Today, I had the privilege of seeking the blessings of #MaaKali at the sacred Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata. I prayed for strength, gratitude, and above all, for the health, happiness, and peace of every one of you. (sic),” Kher captioned the post.

The veteran actor added, “The beauty of India lies not only in its diversity but also in its ancient temples, where generations have come with folded hands and returned with renewed faith.”

The Kalighat Kali Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India. It is believed to be the site where the right toe of Goddess Sati fell during Lord Shiva’s cosmic dance after her self-immolation.

As per Hindu mythology, Shiva carried Sati’s burnt body while performing Tandav, and that’s when various parts of the Goddess’s body fell on earth.

Work-wise, Kher is returning to Bengali cinema as a producer for ‘Shuru Theke Shuru’. He last worked in the Bengali industry 26 years ago in ‘Bariwali’.

Sharing the professional update, Kher wrote, “SHURU THEKE SHURU! Delighted to return to Bengali cinema as a producer after 26 years, since #Bariwali. And what a wonderful homecoming it has been! I have grown up admiring the extraordinary contribution of Bengal to Indian cinema. Some of our greatest writers, directors, actors, singers, musicians and artists have come from this culturally rich land. In many ways, this film is my humble salute to that remarkable legacy.”
