The bottle gourd is one of the great vegetables and contains lots of water. This vegetable is best for summer. In our local language we call this recipe as Sorekai sekhe erevadu which means Sorekai- Bottle gourd, Sekhe- steam erevadu- pouring. Personally I don’t know what other name for this recipe. Hence we can call bottle Gourd steam cake or dumplings . This is easier version of actual kadubu.
Bottle gourd is the most common vegetable in my region. I Am also growing bottle gourd in my garden. I love this vegetable because it is low calorie, contains lots of water and tastes good when you make different recipes out of a bottle gourd.
Making this recipe does not need much ingredients. If the morning is to hurry, bury or travel early this is the best recipe because the previous night we can prepare this recipe. I usually plan this kind of recipe when I leave early in the mornings.
For preparing this recipe first we need to soak the raw rice or white rice. Then grind into a thick batter. If you feel the process of thick batter becoming id difficult or not having much time, then go with rice powder. While chopping the bottle gourd also we need little time because pieces must be too small. Little grown bottle gourd also suits for making this recipe while chopping we must take peels and seeds. While steaming also like idli we need to steam the batter. Once the steamer pot heats then place one or two banana leaves and pour the mixed batter and steam about 30 to 45 minutes.
This kadubu is served with chutney. But if the kadubu is hot I prefer jaggery syrup. Syrup is not available then my choice is coconut oil and pickle. I love these combinations.
