Chhattisgarh: Road accident in Korba claims two lives after scooter-bike collision

Korba, Nov 4 (IANS) Two people were killed in a tragic road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district on Wednesday morning after a scooter and a motorcycle collided on the Gevra-Tipar route in the Kusmunda area.

According to officials, the collision caused both riders to fall onto the road and come under a passing trailer truck. The motorcyclist was crushed under the trailer’s wheels, while the woman riding the scooter died on the spot. The incident triggered panic in the area, with local residents rushing to the accident site.

Preliminary reports suggest that traffic on the Tipar route had increased significantly due to the closure of a railway underbridge for repair work, forcing heavy vehicles to use the alternative road.

Following the accident, concerns have been raised over traffic management and safety arrangements on the diversion route.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Kusmunda police reached the spot, inspected the scene and began legal proceedings. The bodies have been taken into custody, and efforts are underway to establish the identities of the deceased.

The tragedy comes days after another fatal road accident occurred late on Sunday night near Tharudih village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hata Kotwali area, where six people were killed and two others seriously injured after a van collided with a trailer. The injured were referred to Gorakhpur Medical College for treatment.

Five of the deceased in the Uttar Pradesh accident belonged to the same family and were returning home after attending a function. Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth Verma had said that eight people were travelling in an Omni van after a tilak ceremony when it collided with a truck approaching from the Ahirauli side near Hata. Six occupants died in the crash, while two injured passengers were rushed to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.

Police had sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. A relative of the victims told IANS that the bodies would be handed over to the families after the post-mortem, while the two injured persons were undergoing treatment in Gorakhpur.
