New Delhi: The Congress Party has finalized its candidate selection for the upcoming Telangana Vidhan Sabha election, with plans to release the list shortly. In a meeting led by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, attended by key figures including CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi, General Secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal, state unit chief A. Revanth Reddy, Uttam Reddy, state incharge Manik Rao Thakre, and CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, the discussion spanned over two and a half hours.
During the meeting, every constituency’s candidate selection was deliberated, and the party is expected to release its second list in the near future. An earlier session, held on Wednesday, addressed 35 seats.
Of particular focus during the meeting was the candidature of the leaders from the BRS (Bharatiya Rashtravadi Samanta) group, who recently joined the Congress. The party’s leadership explored strategies to accommodate these BRS members and existing party leaders based on their chances of winning in their respective constituencies.
Party sources have confirmed that the remaining candidates will be finalized in the upcoming meetings, and the leadership will subsequently unveil the second list of candidates. On October 15, the Congress Party announced the candidacy of 55 individuals for the Telangana Assembly election. Notably, Dr. Kota Neelima was selected to represent the Sanathanagar Assembly constituency, Jupally Krishna Rao for Kollapur, and the party’s CLP leader, Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, was fielded from the Madhur SC reserved seat.
The Telangana Assembly election is scheduled for November 30, with the counting of votes set for December 3.
