Currently no proposal to rename any AIIMS: Union Minister

New Delhi: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, stated that there is currently no proposal to rename any AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences). This response came in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha regarding whether the government is planning to rename 20 AIIMS institutions in the country after freedom fighters, regional heroes, or based on their distinct geographical identity, including the one in Andhra Pradesh.

Furthermore, in response to another question about the counseling process for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical admissions across the country, Mandaviya clarified that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) conducts counseling for both UG (MBBS) and PG medical courses based on the scheme devised by the Supreme Court.

He also mentioned that there is no proposal for centralized counseling for UG or PG medical courses for the academic year 2023-24.
