Moscow: In a race against rising waters, Russian regions of Kurgan and Tyumen are grappling with a dire flood situation, prompting the evacuation of over 15,000 individuals as of Thursday. With forecasts indicating further escalation, authorities are on high alert to mitigate the unfolding crisis.
In the Kurgan region, the Tobol river has surged beyond the danger mark, with water levels hitting approximately 970 cm in the regional center. This inundation has prompted the evacuation of nearly 14,000 residents, with thousands of homes submerged under the deluge.

Meanwhile, in the Tyumen region, over 1,500 people have been evacuated as the Ishim river in the Kazan district breaches its historical maximum, surpassing the 2017 record by 56 cm. With flood peaks anticipated in the coming days, authorities are reinforcing local dams to stem the rising tide.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations remains vigilant, intensifying efforts to bolster defenses and brace for further inundation. Despite ongoing evacuations and mitigation measures, the scale of the flood crisis underscores the relentless force of nature and the imperative for swift and coordinated response efforts.
