Google has announced a significant change in its policy regarding inactive accounts. Starting now, this alteration will be gradually implemented, affecting Google Accounts that have remained inactive for a continuous period of two years.
The adjustment will lead to the deletion of inactive accounts and any associated content from December 1, 2023, as specified by the tech giant.
It is essential to note that these modifications will not impact individuals unless their Google Account has been inactive for the duration of two years or more, signifying that the account has not been used to sign into any Google service.
While this new policy is being introduced at present, Google intends to enforce any account deletions only beginning December 2023.
In cases where an account qualifies as inactive, Google will send a series of reminder emails to both the account holders and their provided recovery email addresses. These reminders will be issued at least 8 months prior to any account action or content deletion. After the deletion of a Google Account, the associated Gmail address cannot be reused when creating a new Google Account.
To ensure the preservation of an active status for a Google Account, it is recommended to sign into the account at least once within a two-year timeframe. If a Google Account has been used for sign-ins in the past two years, it is categorized as active and will not be subject to deletion, as outlined by the company.
