Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress has announced a protest demonstration scheduled for February 17 at the Income Tax Circle on Ashram Road in Ahmedabad, condemning what they perceive as the “freezing” of bank accounts belonging to the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Youth Congress.
State President Shaktisinh Gohil will lead the protest, prompted by claims that the party’s bank accounts, including those of the Youth Congress, were rendered “inoperative” by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT).
Following swift developments, the Congress later asserted that the accounts were purportedly “defrozen” by the Income Tax department, labeling the incident as a tactic by the BJP government to disrupt the party’s election preparations by impeding its financial resources. However, tax authorities countered, suggesting that the move was a routine recovery measure rather than a targeted freeze, clarifying that Congress accounts were neither blocked nor stopped.
