Hard work, compassion and commitment form backbone of India’s healthcare system: PM Modi on Doctors’ Day

New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended greetings to doctors on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, praising their “hard work, compassion and commitment” and highlighting their pivotal role in strengthening India’s healthcare system.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said: “On Doctors’ Day, greetings to our dedicated doctors, whose hard work, compassion and commitment form the backbone of India’s healthcare system. Their tireless efforts, often in the most challenging circumstances, have earned the trust and gratitude of countless people.

“Over the last decade, India has made significant strides in strengthening our healthcare ecosystem. The number of medical colleges has more than doubled, while undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats have expanded substantially. This unprecedented growth is creating greater opportunities for aspiring doctors, building a stronger healthcare workforce and ensuring that quality medical care reaches every corner of the country,” he said.

“As we work towards building a Viksit Bharat, our doctors will continue to play a pivotal role in promoting preventive healthcare, advancing medical research, embracing innovation and delivering affordable, accessible healthcare for all,” PM Modi added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings to doctors, saying:

“Greetings to all the doctors on #NationalDoctorsDay. Your dedication and commitment to promoting good health, cure and create more awareness about a better way of life paving the way for a stronger and healthier society. May this day strengthen your commitment to serving society.”

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also expressed gratitude to the medical fraternity, stating: “On the occasion of Doctors’ Day, I extend my sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the medical fraternity for its unwavering dedication, exemplary professionalism, and compassionate service to humanity. I salute your invaluable contribution and convey my best wishes for your continued success, good health, and well-being.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed his greetings, saying: “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes on ‘National Doctor’s Day’ to all physician brothers and sisters who regard service as the supreme purpose of their lives and are dedicated to protecting humanity. You are the cornerstone of a healthy and empowered society. May God bless you all to always move forward with complete dedication, compassion, and energy in serving the people.”

National Doctors’ Day in India is observed every year on July 1 to honour the contribution of doctors to society and recognise their role in saving lives and improving public health.
