New Delhi: In a significant announcement at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India is rapidly advancing towards leadership in the realm of 6G technology. He highlighted India’s progress in expanding 5G technology across the nation and expressed confidence in India’s potential to lead the world in 6G technology.
PM Modi emphasized that India’s growth extends beyond telecommunications and technology, envisioning a future encompassing 6G, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, semiconductor technology, drones, and the space sector.
Within a year of the 5G launch, Prime Minister Modi disclosed that nearly four lakh 5G base stations are operational, covering 97% of cities and over 80% of the population.
The event was graced by prominent figures in the telecom industry, including Airtel chief Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of the Aditya Birla group Kumar Mangalam Birla, Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani, and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Further underscoring the transformation in India’s telecom sector, PM Modi highlighted that global tech giants, including Google, Samsung, and Apple, have chosen to manufacture their products in India, leading to the increased usage of “Made in India” mobile phones worldwide. India’s transition from a net importer to an exporter was also acknowledged.
PM Modi celebrated India’s remarkable progress in mobile broadband speed, citing a leap from 118th place to the 43rd position. He asserted that 2014, the year his government came to power, signifies not just a date but a transformative era.
The Prime Minister stressed that the government’s priorities encompass facilitating access to capital, resources, and technology. During the event, he awarded 100 ‘5G Use Case Labs’ to educational institutions across the nation, further advancing India’s technological capabilities.
