Panaji: The inaugural ceremony of India’s first biodiversity village, ‘Atlas,’ took place in Goa. The event was a collaborative effort between Mayem Vaiguinim Grampanchayat, the Biodiversity Management Committee, Mayem Vaiguinim, and Mayem Panlot Sangh.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced during the event that the government plans to develop a biodiversity atlas encompassing all 191 panchayats in the state. He emphasized the government’s commitment to offering the necessary support for preserving and maintaining biodiversity.
Sawant stressed the collective responsibility of safeguarding biodiversity for future generations. He underscored the importance of sustainable utilization of natural resources in a manner that aligns with the earth’s capacity for renewal, particularly in light of changing climatic conditions. The Chief Minister called on the youth to actively participate in biodiversity protection, assuring them of the state government’s assistance in achieving this vital objective.
Sawant emphasized that the protection of biodiversity lies in the hands of local communities and villagers. He urged vigilance to prevent the destruction of biodiversity and encouraged local panch members to actively monitor and safeguard these resources. He also acknowledged the efforts of previous generations in preserving biodiversity and emphasized that the current generation has a crucial responsibility to uphold this legacy for the benefit of future inhabitants.
