Tel Aviv: In a significant development, a senior Israeli delegation is set to arrive in Doha on Monday to engage in discussions aimed at brokering a ceasefire through indirect negotiations.
Sources reveal that the Israel security cabinet, in a meeting on Sunday night, has decided to dispatch a delegation to Qatar for talks facilitated by mediators from Qatar and Egypt. The focus of these talks will revolve around achieving a temporary truce in Gaza and securing the release of hostages.
The delegation, led by Mossad Director David Barnea, will engage in negotiations mediated by Qatari and Egyptian officials. It’s reported that consultations will be held with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant prior to finalizing any ceasefire agreement.
The discussions in Doha, commencing on Monday, aim to address remaining differences between Israel and Hamas, including the potential release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli hostages.
This marks a significant development as it brings together Israeli officials and Hamas leaders for the first time since the onset of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. While previous attempts aimed for a six-week truce, Hamas has been insistent on a permanent ceasefire, a stance Israel has thus far rejected, calling for the eradication of Hamas.
