Bengaluru: During a session in the Karnataka Assembly, Speaker U.T. Khader declared his backing for any expression of anger and choice of words against Pakistan and its supporters. This statement came after objections were raised by Congress MLAs regarding alleged derogatory language used by BJP legislator Basanagouda Patil Yatnal against individuals sympathetic to Pakistan. Yatnal’s comments came while condemning the incident of pro-Pakistan slogans being raised during celebrations for Syed Naseer Hussain’s Rajya Sabha election victory.
In response to objections raised by Congress MLAs Asif Sait, P.M. Narendra Swami, and Basavaraj Rayareddi, Speaker Khader supported Yatnal’s right to address those associated with Pakistan, stating that there was no need for them to be upset. He explicitly stated his approval for any language and expression used against Pakistan and its sympathizers, allowing Yatnal to continue his speech.
Expressing gratitude, Yatnal acknowledged the Speaker’s support for his party’s patriotic stance. Speaker Khader emphasized that all elected members of the house are patriots, dismissing objections about the use of certain words outlined in the Rule Book of the house. He argued that the house cannot solely operate based on the rule book and suggested that those concerned with its adherence should attempt to run the house accordingly.
