Mumbai: In a significant development, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has unanimously approved the Maratha Reservation Bill, allocating 10% quotas to the Maratha community in both education and government jobs. The bill was introduced during a Special Session of the Legislature, with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde elaborating on the government’s stance regarding quotas.
With the passage of this bill, the Maratha community will now benefit from 10% reservations in educational institutions and state government positions, addressing a longstanding demand.
Addressing the assembly, Chief Minister Shinde reaffirmed his commitment to the late Balasaheb Thackeray and expressed pride in fulfilling this promise to the Maratha community. He credited the success of this initiative to the efforts spearheaded by leaders like Manoj Jarange-Patil, emphasizing that the implementation was carried out without disadvantaging any other community, including the OBCs.
Assuring the legality of the reservation, Shinde assured that the bill had undergone rigorous scrutiny and had been meticulously crafted to ensure justice for the Marathas. The unanimous passing of the bill, accompanied by applause, underscores the collective determination to address the aspirations of the Maratha community.
