Massive landslides: disrupted traffic on the Chandigarh-Shimla highway

Mandi: Significant landslides have resulted in the blockage of the Chandigarh-Manali highway, causing substantial damage near Pandoh in Mandi district. This natural disaster has left numerous vehicles stranded on both sides of the affected area.

Authorities have taken the precaution of halting vehicular movement beyond Mandi towards Kullu and vice versa. Additionally, the alternate route connecting Mandi and Kullu via Kataula has been disrupted by a massive landslide near Kamad.

Officials from the Mandi and Kullu district administrations have strongly recommended that travelers postpone their journeys along the Mandi-Kullu route until the highway has been fully restored. Restoration efforts are anticipated to be completed later in the day.

In another incident, landslides in the vicinity of Solan town have disrupted traffic on the Chandigarh-Shimla national highway.

Given the active western disturbance prevailing, the meteorological office has forecasted intense periods of precipitation for districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur.

According to a government spokesperson, the Satluj, Beas, and Yamuna rivers, along with their tributaries, are experiencing increased water flow in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, and Sirmaur districts. These rivers subsequently flow into the states of Punjab and Haryana.
