Palestinian factions blame Israeli violations for shooting attack near Jerusalem

Jerusalem: Palestinian factions, including Hamas, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, have attributed the shooting attack near Jerusalem to Israeli violations and actions. The incident occurred in the settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, east of Jerusalem, where a Palestinian gunman opened fire at a group of Israelis, injuring at least five people, as reported by Israeli medics.

The Israeli police stated that an off-duty border guard officer responded to the attack and killed the Palestinian gunman in the settlement.

In response to the incident, Hamas spokesman Abdulatif Al-Qanou’a expressed support for the shooting attack, stating that it was carried out in defense of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and in response to Israeli settlers’ incursions and the performance of Talmudic rituals in its courtyards.

Similarly, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine stated that the attack was a response to the “crimes of the occupation” and aimed to challenge Israeli security measures and barriers.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement also praised the attack, referring to the perpetrator as a “heroic Palestinian resistance fighter.”

The region has witnessed ongoing violence, and the recent attack adds to the toll of casualties on both sides. Since January, there have been a series of attacks carried out by Palestinians, resulting in the death of 24 people, primarily Israelis. On the other hand, about 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers, according to official figures. The situation remains tense, with deep-seated grievances and political complexities contributing to the ongoing conflict.
