Imphal: The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has called for President’s rule in Manipur and submitted a memorandum to President Draupadi Murmu through district officials. In the memorandum, the RLD demands the immediate dissolution of the Manipur government and the imposition of President’s rule in the state.
Additionally, the party is seeking the formation of a committee, led by a sitting Supreme Court judge, to conduct an impartial inquiry into the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur. The RLD emphasizes the need for the President’s intervention to address the atrocities against women, tribals, Dalits, and the economically disadvantaged in the state. They also urge the government to provide compensation to the families of those who lost their lives in the violence that began in May.
The RLD spokesperson, Anil Dubey, accuses both the Central government and the Manipur government of being passive observers to the violence, which has led to heightened tension in the entire north-eastern region. He condemns the “unfortunate and barbaric” incidents in Manipur, particularly those involving women, labeling them a disgrace to humanity.
The call for President’s rule and the demand for an impartial inquiry come amid rising concerns over the ongoing violence and its impact on vulnerable communities in Manipur. The RLD seeks urgent intervention and accountability measures to address the grave situation and restore peace and security in the state.
