Srinagar: Severe snowfall within the last 24 hours has prompted the closure of the Srinagar-Leh highway and most other major routes leading out of Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. However, the Srinagar-Jammu highway remains open with traffic flowing smoothly, according to officials from the traffic department.
Reports indicate that besides the Srinagar-Leh highway, other affected routes include the Mughal Road, Bandipora-Gurez road, Sinthan-Kishtwar road, and roads leading to Keran/Karnah border towns.
While the Valley experienced rainfall, higher elevations including Zojila Pass, Baltal, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Doodhpathri, and Gurez witnessed heavy snowfall during this period.
Updates from the Gulmarg ski resort reveal ongoing heavy snowfall in the morning hours. The Meteorological Department has predicted continued rain/snow until February 21, after which an improvement in weather conditions is anticipated.
