Punjab Police Registers FIR in Farmer’s Death on Haryana Border
New Delhi: Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill announced on Thursday that the Punjab Police have registered an FIR into the tragic death of farmer Shubhkaran Singh, who lost his life last week during a protest on the Punjab-Haryana border.
The decision to file a zero FIR came following legal advice, and Shubhkaran Singh's funeral is scheduled for later on Thursday. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also pledged a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family, along with offering Shubhkaran's sister a constable job in the Punjab Police as per the family's wishes.
Expressing solidarity with the grieving family, Gill affirmed, "We stand by his family and will do everything to support them."
