DMK Agrees to Allocate 7 Lok Sabha Seats to Congress in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: In a significant development, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has agreed to allocate seven Lok Sabha seats to the Congress party in Tamil Nadu, adjusting from the initially demanded 16 seats.
During the 2019 general elections, Congress contested nine seats as part of the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by DMK, securing victory in eight constituencies. However, the Theni Lok Sabha seat was lost to O.P. Raveendranathan of AIADMK, defeating senior Congress leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan.
Sources indicate that the Congress' list of candidates exceeded expectations, prompting the DMK leadership, led by T.R. Baalu, to communicate a maximum allocation of seven seats to the Congress.
