Sports ministry suspends Sanjay Singh-led new Wrestling Federation
New Delhi: The Sports Ministry took swift action on Sunday, suspending the newly-formed Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) led by Sanjay Singh. The move comes in response to what the ministry deemed a 'hasty' announcement by WFI President Sanjay Kumar Singh regarding the upcoming U-15 and U-20 nationals in Nandini Nagar, Gonda (UP).
According to sources, the ministry issued a letter citing the announcement as premature, lacking sufficient notice to participating wrestlers, and violating the WFI constitution. The letter pointed out that decisions about national championships should be made by the Executive Committee after due consideration of agendas, with proper notice and quorum, as specified in the WFI constitution.
