Thousands of Farmers Forge Ahead to Delhi Despite Heavy Security Measures

New Delhi: In defiance of extensive security preparations and barricades set up along the Punjab-Haryana borders, thousands of farmers remain undeterred as they press on towards Delhi. Following inconclusive talks lasting over five hours with the Centre, farmers embarked on a protest march towards the national capital early Tuesday morning, riding tractor-trailers and earthmovers.

Undeterred by the challenges, farmers are driving tractors as part of their ‘Dilli Chalo’ march, intending to traverse city, town, and village streets across Punjab, disrupting traffic in their pursuit of demands, notably seeking a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) for crops.

In Punjab, police have largely refrained from blocking highways and link roads, allowing farmers to proceed towards Haryana unhindered.

Late Monday, representatives of all-India farmer unions announced their unanimous decision to converge on the national capital to voice their dissent against the BJP-led Central government.

Issuing a stern warning to state governments, the farmers declared their intent to stage an indefinite sit-in protest in Delhi if obstructed on their route.

Haryana Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector General Manisha Chaudhary, affirmed comprehensive measures to uphold law and order, revealing the deployment of 114 companies across various districts, comprising 64 paramilitary units and 50 Haryana Police units.
