
London: In a devastating road accident in the central Nicaraguan department of Matagalpa on Saturday, at least 16 people lost their lives, with an additional 26 individuals sustaining injuries, as confirmed by Vice President Rosario Murillo.
The victims included several children, as reported on local news agency. The incident occurred in the morning when a bus, carrying approximately 70 passengers, collided with the fence of the Mancera river bridge in the Rancho Grande municipality.
Pedro Haslam, the political secretary of Matagalpa, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating, ‘We are dismayed with this tragedy in the city of Matagalpa.’ Authorities from Matagalpa, the Ministry of Health, the National Police, and Fire Department units were swiftly present at the scene to provide assistance to the victims.
