Bengaluru: Former Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has demanded an impartial investigation into an alleged bogus voting case at a polling station in Haveri, questioning the delay in action despite claims of evidence.
Bommai alleged that the incident demonstrated the possibility of vote tampering even in ballot paper elections. He argued that electronic voting machines (EVMs) were introduced to prevent irregularities associated with ballot paper handling, citing past instances of alleged malpractice.
Demanding accountability, Bommai called for action against the officials concerned and registration of a criminal case against the woman accused in the Haveri incident. He also questioned the State Election Commission’s response, alleging that its failure to act despite the reported evidence had raised suspicions of a possible cover-up.

“If no mistake was made, why were the concerned teachers suspended?” he asked, seeking clarity on the action taken against officials.
Bommai urged authorities to obtain CCTV footage and conduct an impartial probe, saying the commission was responsible for protecting the integrity of elections. He added that legal action should be taken against anyone found guilty, irrespective of their position.
The allegations and demands for action were made by Bommai; the claims require verification through an independent investigation.
